Ooty is a town and a municipality of Tamil Nadu, India. It is situated at a distance of 86 km away from Coimbatore. The height of the hills in the Nilgiri range varies between 2280 to 2290 mt., the highest peak being Doddabetta at a height of 2623 meters and 128 km from Mysore and is the capital of the Nilgiris district. It is a famous hill station located in the Nilgiri Hills. Ooty is very much known as the “Queen of hill stations” among the tourist circuits. The economy of Ooty is based on tourism and agriculture, along with the manufacture of medicines and movie shooting. The town is well connected by the Nilgiri ghat roads and Nilgiri Mountain Railway. It is a natural environment attracts traveller and it is a popular summer holiday.
The establishment of numerous tea estates made Ooty popular. Lofty mountains, dense forest, rambling grasslands and miles and miles of tea gardens greet the tourist on most routes. Nilgiri Mountain Railway: The Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train is the main attraction of a visit to the popular hill station of Ooty, in south India's Tamil Nadu state. Founded in the early 19th century by the British as the summer headquarters of the Chennai government, Ooty now draws tourists attraction to escape the stifling summer heat. The railway started 1899 and was completed in 1908. It was declared that a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.

Botanical Garden: Formed in 1847, sprawling across 55 acres area, Botanical Garden is a wonderful landscaped garden counted among the best location to visit in Ooty. The garden area is split into various sections, New Garden, namely Lower Garden, Conservatory, Italian Garden, Fountain Terrace, and Nurseries. Varieties of both indigenous and exotic plants, herbal, shrubs, orchids,  ferns and bonsai species are showcased here.

Rose Garden Ooty: With more than 3600 varieties of roses, the Rose Garden is one of the most gorgeous and magnificent places you must cover during sightseeing in Ooty. Awarded as the ‘Garden of Excellence’ by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS), this is one of the biggest rose gardens in India, spread across 10 acres of area. Explore this place to cherish & enjoy the exotic species and to buy plants and saplings for your own garden.

Ooty Lake: Among the most famous & serene places to visit in Ooty is Ooty Lake. With the backdrop of wonderful Nilgiris, the lake rests in the middle of the green valleys. During the summer festival in May, many thrilling boat races are organised here. The lake also works as an amusement park.

Pykara Lake  Ooty: Pykara is a sparkling lake nestled amid lavish green Nilgiri valleys. There is also a thundering waterfall that goes by the same name. If you live near Ooty, then a day-long trip can be done by local buses or private cabs. People can trek up to the waterfall, enjoy boating, and witness the beautiful valleys.

Doddabetta Peak Nilgiri: Offering you the most breathtaking stunning views of the highest peak of Nilgiri, Doddabetta Peak is a refreshing and mesmerizing visual treat for all. Along with the peak, one can relish the luxuriant surroundings, dense forests, and picturesque view of lavishing Ooty. If you are a trekker, you are going to love this location.

Tea Museum Ooty: Spread across 1-acre area, the Tea Museum is one of the most attracting tourist places in Ooty. It is surrounded by aromatic tea estates and lavishing Nilgiri mountains. You must visit this place if you are a tea lover. You can see the tea making process and taste some incredible varieties of tea while looking at the mesmerizing beauty surrounding the museum.

Kalhatty Waterfalls: These falls are situated at a distance of approximately 15 km from Ooty. All the adventure lover out there can plan a visit to these falls as they can reach there after a 2-mile trek from village Kalhatti. Mythologically, believed that saint Agastya used to live in this region. While going to witness these falls, it is suggested that you stay careful, for there are various wild species in this region.

Mudumalai National Park – A Beautiful Tiger Reserve: This national park is one of the forest ranges that were first considered to be national parks. Mudumalai National Park is situated in the district of Nilgiri and lies in Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. Also, it comes on the way between Ooty and Mysore. It has recently been declared as a tiger reserve owing to the presence of around 50 tigers. The best time to come here is during the beginning of summer or towards the end of monsoon.

Deer Park Ooty: This park is located at a distance of around 1 km from Ooty Lake and is considered to be quite accessible. Apart from just the deer, you can witness many other animals, including Sambhar and Chital along with various birds. This park has been carefully maintained and is one of the most-visited tourist attractions in this hill station. If you’re visiting Ooty for a couple of days, then this is the best place to visit.

Wax World Museum: Wax World Museum in Ooty is one of the best places to visit in Ooty with kids. A 130-year-old Colonial Mansion situated near Ooty Lake houses this entrancing gallery that showcases lifelike wax statues of historical and political personalities. The museum also shows typical rural household and replicates the local lifestyle and all these made by wax.

By Flight: Nearest airport from Ooty is Coimbatore 88 km. Ooty which is well connected from other cities in India.

By Train: The nearest rail station is Mettupalyam, 40 kilometres from Ooty & Coimbatore 86 km. There are trains from Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore and Bangalore well connecting Mettupalyam. Some of the famous trains are Ooty Udagamandalam Passenger train, Mettupalyam Udagamandalam Passenger train, Mangalore Mail and Mangalore Express. From here on, you can likewise board the heritage train known as the Nilgiri Mountain train which takes you uphill on an exciting journey.

By Road: Ooty is a major tourist attraction of South India. You will get government and luxury buses from Bangalore, Chennai & Mysore to Ooty. These are overnight buses and the journey is comfortable. Government bus departure daily at 5pm and 7pm from Calicut and it takes just 6 hours to reach Ooty.
